As 2k22 is slowly drawing to an end and it's November already, it's probably time to turn back in time and let our hair down to vibe to the independent music releases that kept coming in throughout the year. Soon after the pandemic took a back seat and things limped back to normalcy. It's that time of the year, when there's a nip in the air, the time to wrap ourselves up in the coziness of our warm rooms and let music consume all negativities away. Well, so let's talk about some of the top Indian independent artists who are putting relentless efforts to help the scene grow in the best way possible. Therefore, diving straight into the topic!
1) ANUV JAIN :
An Indian-Indie singer-songwriter who is a twenty-seven year old Ludhiana guy who took over the hearts of music lovers across India with his songs : Gul, Baarishein, Alag Aasmaan, Riha, Maula, Meri Baaton Mein Tu and others, with over 33Lakh monthly listeners on Spotify and over 534K followers on Instagram. He released the official music video of his single named, "Mazaak" on his YouTube channel on 15th of September, this year, which gained over 29.8Lakh views and 1.5Lakh likes. The song speaks about the universal truth about love which finds its way to us when we least expect it to happen and we wish that it doesn't become a joke cause everything in life is very fleeting. With the melodious and psychedelic music, beautiful yet easy-to-understand lyrics and great cinematography, the song gives us an insight into the essence of love between two souls.
2) SHUBHAM KABRA :
He's an independent singer-songwriter from Rajasthan who's genre is alternative Indian Indie Film pop and has 40.1K monthly listeners on Spotify. On 15th of August, 2022,that is on Independence Day,he released the official music video of his original composition "Theher Ja Tu" which talks about two hearts tied amidst a mesh of strings that ties both, yet pulls them apart from each other. The smooth, soft music, amazing sense of lyricism and cinematography, overall, the song is a beautifully crafted piece which has already won hearts of 4.9K people as per the view-count on You Tube and still counting. With his previous releases : Jaan Baaki, Yeh Shaam, Vaari Vaari, Bachpan, Roohani Si and others, Shubham Kabra never disappoints his listeners.
3) ANKUR TIWARI:
Born of 5th Of February, 1977, he is an Independent Indian singer-songwriter who lives in Brussels, Belgium. His genre is Indian Film Pop and has won many accolades for his work which includes Filmfare Awards, Zee Cine Awards and Screen Award for being the best lyricist and music director. He released the official music video of his recent single named "Aahista" on his You Tube Channel, on 28th Jan, this year, which gained 46.9K views and still counting. With his mellifluous voice and amazing music and lyrics, the song acts as a balm to our tired spirits. 4) RADIONUCLIDES :
A Bengali Heavy Metal act from Kolkata, India with Akash Bhattacharya on vocals, Swarnava Mukherjee and Krishanu Halder on guitars, Rohan Ghosh on bass and Rahul Singh on drums. They recently released the official music video of their original composition named,"Obyakto", featuring Pritam Adhikary, the vocalist of Kill The King(a thrash metal band from Pune, India) and Aarlon (an Alt-Rock and metalcore act from New Delhi, India). The song speaks about the crude,harsh realities that life keeps throwing on our faces each day as we inch towards the eternity and throws light on the hard times we are dwelling in. Each of the members of the project have done an amazing job with the song as well as the music video and the lyrics, obviously, strikes us hard. "Obyakto" already gained 2.2K views on You Tube and still counting. A year ago, the band released the official music video of their single called "Swadhinata" which is also a great creative piece on the part of the members.
5) PAREKH AND SINGH
This is a alternative/indie folk / dream-pop act by Nischay Parekh and Jivraj Singh from Kolkata, India. They released the official music video of their single called, "Sleepyhead", from the album "The Night Is Clear" (released on 2nd Sept, this year),on 19th of May, this year which gained 62.5K views on You Tube. The song talks about sometimes how procrastination and reticence adds to our artistic abilities. Their other releases are Me & You, Ocean, Philosophize and others.
6) BLOODYWOOD :
An Indian Folk Metal act from New Delhi which performed at The Wacken Open Air Metal Fest with Jayant Bhadula on vocals, Karan Katiyar on guitars, flute and production, Raoul Kerr on Rap Vocals, Vishesh Singh on Drums, Roshan Roy on bass and Sarthak Pawha o Dhol and Indian percussion. They released their official music video of their song named "Dana Dan" from their album "Rakshak" which speaks about sexual assault and social atrocities and highlights upon the appeal to eliminate these evils from the world.This was released on their You Tube channel on 18th of February, this year and gained over 31Lakh views. Bloodywood has more than 2.3Lakh monthly listeners on Spotify with their other releases : Gaddaar, Endurant, Yaad, Aaj and many more.
7) GIRISH AND THE CHRONICLES :
This is an Indian Rock band based in Gangtok,Sikkim with Girish Pradhan on vocals, Suraj Sun on guitars, Yogesh Pradhan on bass and Nagen Mongrati on drums. The band released the official music video of the song "Hail To The Heroes" on 14th Jan this year, from their album by the same name. The project gained over 2.3K views on You Tube and 93.6K plays on Spotify. With their 80s influenced sound, all of the musicians have been incredible in their respective duties and the frontman's vocal delivery deserves much appreciation.
8) DYMBUR :
This is an experimental Khaasi Thraat Indian Folk Metal band based in Shillong, Meghalaya, which began as a Djent metal band in 2012 and then decided to add their traditional Khaasi instrumentals with progressive metal, representing their cultural heritage acts as an icing on the cake. The official music video of their original composition named,"Back Home" on 23rd September, this year which speaks of child prostitution, discrimination protections, human rights and LGBTQ rights and gained 13.5K views on You Tube. The band members include Neil Lyngdoh on Vocals, Cornelius Kharsyntiew on Guitars, Mayson Dkhar on Bass and Bhabor Lyngdoh on Drums. 9) AAKHRI SULTAN :
Shashank Sharma aka Aakhri Sultan is an Indian rapper, lyricist and music composer based in West Delhi, who beautifully combined metal with rap in his latest release named "Jaag Ja Janwar" which was released on 15th of January, this year on the You Tube channel of Artzilla Records. The song gained 20.3K views with it's great cinematography and music. His other releases include "Upar Se", "Dog Wolf", "Oh No", "Moshpit" and others, the music videos of which were all released through Artzilla Records.
10) RAMAN NEGI :
Raman Negi happens to be the former vocalist of the famous Indie Rock band named "Local Train" which is not in operation now. He has his own You Tube channel where he releases his own creations. He recently uploaded the official video of his song "Lullaby For The Anxious Bones" which touched the hearts of 11K people. With his beautiful work of the lyrics, vocals, riffs and tunes, the song will definitely give a calming effect to our "anxious bones".His other creations include Gaayab, Mehroom, Ek Din and Koyla.
