The very idea of The Pit came up in 2009 when the Kolkata metal circuit was in its nascent stage and the bands like In Human, Chronic Xorn, Yonsample, DIOTB and other people who loved the genre came together to form a metal community where people would pour in to dive into the spirit of music. It was a time when restaurants and bars never allowed metal bands to perform live and gigs didn't take place as frequently as it happens now. The Pit started as a self sponsored event and the first five volumes took place in Tapan Theatre, the first three volumes being free gigs. People came together in huge numbers to support the artists and the genre as a whole.
